Network Optimisations

A Network Optimisation study analyses every aspect of a client’s telecommunications usage and expenditure, in order to ensure that its telecommunications are optimally configured to meet its business requirements. We have completed more than 2,000 of these studies for large and multinational corporations around the world.

The network optimisation study addresses, as appropriate, issues of management, administration, support, service providers, costs, capacity, configuration, functionality, security risks, redundancy, diversity, disaster recovery, and design of telecommunications services.

Cost savings almost always result from these reviews. On average, we have saved our clients 26% on their annual expenditures on telecommunications services. The reviews also identify opportunities to reduce soft costs.

Each review is tailored to the client’s particular areas of interest or requirements. Some recent reviews have included:

  • Network cost optimisation, including incorporation of comprehensive business continuity resources into clients’ voice networks at little or no incremental cost
  • Best value and cost containment
  • Development and roll out of a telecommunications strategy for a company aiming to transition its voice services across its entire network to IP Telephony over a three year period
  • Development of telecommunications templates for companies with multiple locations
  • Management Information resources for corporate telecommunications
  • Developing comprehensive models and assessment of telecommunications infrastructure components and services
  • Optimisation of internal processes, procedures and associated management overhead, and alignment of vendors’ delivery of service and support with companies’ internal service and support structures

We have no ties, financial or otherwise, with telecommunications vendors, carriers, or service providers. So, we offer our clients fully independent advice. Communications Options was founded as a network design and optimisation firm in the early years of competition and deregulation in telecommunications. Our first clients were major corporations who wanted to optimise their networks, taking advantage of the new offerings from competitive carriers.   With the global trend towards competitive regulatory regimes in the 80s and 90s, Communications Options grew to become one of the leading network design and optimisation firms in the world.

The output of the review is a series of recommendations, expressed in plain English.

Reference clients for the service include Clifford Chance LLP, the largest law firm in the world.

Communications Options works on a time and materials basis. However, the cost of the study is capped at 25% of the savings achieved in the first year. We can offer this arrangement because we have never had a situation where the cost of performing a network optimisation review was more than a quarter of the first year’s savings. The average savings that we have achieved for clients is 26% of their total telecommunications cost.

Communications Options has optimised networks for some of the largest companies in the world, including Boeing, Canadian Airlines, Canadian Pacific, Clifford Chance, Credit Suisse, El Al, Eli Lilly, Exxon, FirstGroup, Ford, General Motors, Greyhound, Gulf Oil, Hong Kong Bank, Hudson’s Bay Company, IBM, Ingersoll Rand, Laidlaw, Merrill Lynch, M&C Saatchi, Motorola, Nortel, Ogilvy & Mather, Pepsi, Pitney Bowes, Royal and Sun Alliance, Sanyo, Sears, Shell, TMP, UBS, and Xerox.

Communications Options has also performed network optimisations and other consulting work on a sub-contract basis for most of the large consulting firms in the world, including Arthur Andersen, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, KPMG, Deloittes, Ernst & Young, IBM, EDS, and AT Kearney.
